Matthews 7:7-8 says, "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened."
I know what it's like to become distant in my prayer life. Eventually it's almost as if I forgot what it feels like to have an intimate and personal conversation with the Lord. My church here in Lynchburg started a new series today about praying with audacity; praying the way God longs for us to commune with Him. I wanted to share some of the notes I jotted down, mostly so that I'll remember these encouraging truths long after my paper bulletin is lost or thrown away... but also in case someone stumbles upon this page and reads something they've been needing to hear.
- a weak or boring prayer life does not access big dreams or big courage
- often we're too lazy or proud to beg, demand, or even ask things of God
- ask if you're seeking the right things for your life
- to ask and seek may not lead us to what our heart's have begged for, but it will
lead us to what we're meant for; either way we win
- we must remember to thank God when he does answer us
When I'm distant in my prayers, my heart so quickly becomes a resting place for prideful apathy. I don't want that. Instead, I want to be passionate and daring in my prayers, and I want to see God do incredible things because of my faith! His Word tells us that if we ask, seek, and knock we will not be denied the attention and affection of our Savior. He patiently waits, and His ear is turned to hear the word's of our hearts. How could I not run to Him in prayer when it is impossible for Him to let me down?!
